SOUL MAIL Sunday: Listen to the Loving Voice Within

Greetings on this SOUL MAIL Sunday, July 19, 2026. Our message today is: Listen to the Loving Voice Within. I've been pondering some questions this week. What voice do you listen to? Do you still have your own voice, and how do you use it?

After thunderstorms this week, I've been hearing the frogs in the woods singing together. The frog animal spirit represents cleansing, emotional healing and transformation through sound and water. Early one morning I stepped out onto my front porch to check on my plants and I spotted a baby frog the size of a penny. I took a video of him attempting some of his first unsuccessful hops onto the porch wall. My grandsons, who are enamored with frogs, repeatedly loved seeing the little frog video.

Watching that tiny frog make repeated attempts to climb the porch wall reminded me that growth is rarely graceful. Nature doesn't judge the first awkward hop. It simply keeps encouraging life forward. Perhaps healing begins the same way for us—not in one giant leap, but in many small acts of courage. We, too, need courageous steps to express our emotions and move toward healing through life's stormy transitions. Lately, many people in my life have been sharing their emotions about the storms in their lives. Some expressed this through tears, while others expressed it through singing, storytelling, and conversation. My grandsons sometimes express their emotions through tears, throwing things, or pushing each other. We must encourage them to find healthier ways to express their feelings and show them how to problem solve.

We have many more options for self-expression than our frog friends. We can dance, move through playing sports, write poetry, journal, create art, tell stories, engage in helpful conversation, garden, sing, play instruments, and use numerous other forms of human creative self-expression. At our best, humans can achieve transformation and creative problem solving. Like many of you, I've also been navigating a season of storms. I find that getting through them gracefully requires a spirit of collaboration and gratitude. Today's SOUL MAIL reminds us that it starts by listening to the loving voice within us. May we quiet the many voices that surround us long enough to hear the loving voice within—the one that gently calls us toward compassion, creativity, healing, and hope, and the one that guides us toward becoming the people we were created to be.
